Matt Solomon is known for his rococo -inspired floral sculptures and now has a new collection of fruits and vegetables we are thrilled to feature in our shop and online. When speaking to Matt, he emphasized how intrigued he is of Dutch still-life paintings, leading him to create this collection with this inspiration in mind. He often layers up to 12 glazes on his pieces, never fully knowing how they will “ripen” after being in the kiln, sometimes starting over several times until he has a curated collection that satisfies him. He’s fascinated by still-lifes that focus more on capturing the essence of his creation and adds a special sensual feeling to his pieces that allow the observer’s mind to creatively wonder and get lost in the depths of color and texture. He admires the hauntingly beautiful effect of a fruit or vegetable that is in slight decay.
Take a peak into this incredible creative mind.
